Saturday's Class:
Creating the Birth Environment that is Right for you.
There are a lot of labour and birth books to read and a great deal of information to absorb but how do you know which technique, which theory is right for you. This class will break it all down for you. We are all different, unique individuals and what works for one person may not work for you. You will leave this half day class with a clear understanding of how creating the "right birth environment" that is unique to you is an important key to how you eventually give birth.
Topics discussed will be:
-the effects of fear and anxiety on the physiology of labour
-Physical and mental preparation for childbirth, learning different techniques for relaxation and discovering which one works for you.
-the stages of labour and different ways of coping with those stages
-understanding that labour is different and unique to each individual
-comfort measures and techniques for your labour support team
-understanding the vital role that labour support provides
-when labour does not go how we'd hope or planned and how to turn that into an amazing birth story
Sunday's Class:

Making Sense of Discipline
Please see the description on the left for registration information.
4-class session starting on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 and running Tuesdays exclusively until Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 7:45 pm to 8:45 pm.
Making Sense of Discipline: the ins and outs of imposing order on children's behavior
This is a video course and discussion group developed by internationally renowned developmental psychologist Dr. Gordon Neufeld, a best-selling and award-winning author.
This course applies the attachment-based developmental approach to the area of discipline. Imposing order on children's behavior is never particularly easy; imposing order on their minds is even more daunting. When the challenge is to impose order without putting in jeopardy healthy attachment and development, many are at a loss of how to proceed. Unfortunately, today's prevailing methods of discipline are completely uninformed as to their impact on attachment and development. This course not only provides parents and teachers with this knowledge but also equips them with a solid methodology that is not only much more effective and also much less risky than the usual fare. This course not only answers the questions of what to do when problems arise but does so without sacrificing a child's emotional health and sense of security for short-term gains in behavior and performance. The ultimate objective of this course is for parents and teachers to come to the place where the answers will come from their own understanding and where they possess the inner confidence to handle the small stuff as well as the more challenging issues.
PLEASE NOTE: The evening class participants view the online course recordings from their own computers through the Neufeld Institute Virtual Campus and then come together weekly as a group for an interactive discussion forum. Course registration includes a 3 month study pass to the Neufeld Virtual Campus with all its rich resources and live discussion forums, plus access to study guides and supplementary material.
